Château Terrier du Peuil:
Fine Bordeaux wines produced from organically grown grapes
Our Vision:

Our goal is to bring back to life a traditional micro wine estate revolving around a vineyard hut, as there are so many in all wine areas.

At the end of the last century, the ruins of the vineyard hut were the only remains of the old domain we elected. After it had been neglected for decades, we have discovered a truly outstanding soil. In fact, a pedological study confirmed the excellent choice made by the former winegrowers. It is on this exceptional land that we have planted our cabernet sauvignon estate.

Our on-going work will naturally lead us to restore and promote the vernacular settlements of the ancient wine growing communities (see pictures of the vineyard hut renovation here). We also wish to explore and rehabilitate traditional vine culture and vinification techniques.
Organic farming and the elaboration of "natural" wines logically correspond to our project.

Château History

Château Terrier du Peuil is a recently created wine estate, run by Sylvie and Régis Névéol.

The estate is composed of two slightly different soils that were both traditionnally dedicated to vine growing.

Both vineyards used to be small, independant estates of 5 "journaux". A "journal" (from the French word "jour" = day) corresponds to 824 acres, which used to be the surface of vineyard that could be tended to by the winegrower in one working day.

Each soil has the perfect characteristics required for a specific grape type of the Bordeaux area. One is planted with cabernet sauvignon, and the other with merlot.

The engraving on the label shows the traditional vineyard hut that still exists on our site, and well the winegrower would dwell during his working week.

Vine Culture

The vine culture is exclusively manual and mecanical, in compliance with the requirements of organic farming. Absolutely no herbicides or chemicals are used.

The conformity of our work against the European organic regulations is garanteed by Ecocert International, which is an accredited inspection and certification society.

Wine Making

The wine is fermented with natural yeast. Going along with the trend of "natural" wines, we do not use any additives or chaptalization.

Whipped egg whites are used as a fining agent before the wine is bottled.

The wine yield is 10 hectolitres per hectare for our vintage 2003, which concentrates the flavours.
